Olympic National Park announced their intention to re-open Hurricane Ridge Road for the summer season, which means the ride is on!!! Significant work still needs to be done (see article link below), but by August 6th the road and the summit should be safe and accessible for our cyclists. The lodge may be gone, but the scenic route along the way and the stunning views at the top create the true magic of the ride.
We have 25 slots left open at this posting, so if you or someone you know is planning to join the ride, don’t wait to register. We’ll likely be moving to the waiting list by this weekend.

Hurricane Ridge Road is closed to car traffic. Is it open now to cycling? I’d like to start practicing for the August 6 event.
Thank you.

It’s not open yet but we will post here as soon as we know. It is open up until Heart of the Hills. The section before Heart of the Hills is the biggest stretch with the highest grade, and most cyclists tell us it’s the hardest part of the ride, so that section is open for training. I know of several regular Hurricaners who are training that way, by riding up and down again twice. According to information from the park we anticipate the road opening very soon. It may not open to vehicles immediately, but might first open to the Clallam Transit shuttle, which would also allow bikes to use the road. We’ll keep you posted!

You’re right. I’ve written it a few times in that first section is usually the hardest. I guess because further up the grade needs to be smaller for snow conditions. Thanks for the reply.

ARE EBIKES STILL EXCLUDED ON THE HURICANE RIDE?

Hello Peter,
I responded to your earlier post, but yes, we are unable to accommodate Ebikes at this time. Perhaps someday the park will allow us to extend the ride window so we have more time and can do a separate portion of the ride with Ebikes, but currently we are only set up to operate and manage an endurance hill climb, and to focus on the safety and needs of the cyclists who are operating at the edge of their abilities. There is a gorgeous and lovely ride the day before RTH called Tour de Lavender which is an excellent event for Ebikes. I highly recommend it.
