Volunteer Positions

Early Check Friday and/or Saturday before the ride from 6-8 pm  – Check in cyclists at the ride start location on Friday, 8/1 or Saturday 8/2 before the ride to reduce lines on ride morning. These volunteers check in cyclists, hand out ride packets, distribute and sell jerseys, and they are the first volunteers our cyclists meet, so they set the tone for the ride.

Ride Day Registration 6 am to 9 am – Check in participants the morning of the ride, hand out ride packets and jerseys, sell extra jerseys while supplies last, check in cyclist gear, greet and check in Canadian cyclists arriving from the Coho ferry, and provide a friendly, inspiring RTH welcome to cyclists starting the ride.

Summit Cheering Section, 7 am to noon – This is a VERY fun job, waiting at the top of the ridge to celebrate as cyclists achieve the summit. Feel free to whistle, cheer, or bring bells. Drive up to the top before the road is closed to vehicles, bring a chair, and we’ll provide a canopy for cover. This is a great job if you know someone in the ride because you’ll be there to cheer for them as they achieve the summit. Please note that the road is closed to motor vehicles from 7 am until noon, so these volunteers must get up to the top by 7 am (in their own vehicles or carpooling with other volunteers), and stay at the top until noon when the road reopens to cars.

Aid Station Support, 6:30 am to noon – We try to create an oasis with each aid station for cyclists to rest, refuel, and socialize, so these volunteers are among the most important of the ride. These are the hype people for the riders, and the encouragement and inspiration they provide are just as important as the food and snacks. Helping at an aid station along the route involves preparing and handing out snacks, water, Gatorade, and band aids, with the friendly and positive vibe that we want for Ride the Hurricane.

Bike Mechanic, 7 am to noon – Volunteers with skill or experience to provide bike repair assistance at the summit, and at one or more of our aid stations. Bonus points for bringing tools.

Summit Crew, 7 am to noon – Help at Summit Aid Station, direct cyclists to photo spot and bike mechanic, play great music on the Bluetooth speaker, and help create the feeling of celebration at the top for all the cyclists who made the climb.

After Party Help (two shifts, sign up for one or both): 9 am to noon or noon until 3 pm – Join us on city pier and help as the cyclists arrive for beer and tacos! Set up and take down tables and chairs, monitor beer garden entrance, cheer at the finish line, help pass out checked gear, and make the After Party a true celebration! These volunteers will rotate so that nobody stays in the same place for long.

Bike Corral 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Check in and babysit bikes while cyclists walk around town. Pass out checked gear. These volunteers are welcome to put out a tip cup!
