Ride updates as of 7/31/23

Note: If you’re reading this in an email you’re getting a partial website update and need to go to Ridethehurricane.com and visit the Updates page.

We met with park staff today and finalized the details of the ride. Before we get into that, we’re getting a lot of questions that make us nervous, because it seem there are many of you who haven’t checked the website for ride information. We once again want to urge all registered cyclists, even those who have done the ride before, to take some time to review the website, especially the Ride Day Info page, the FAQ page, and the Updates page.

Waitlist Spots: We’re looking for cyclists who will be in town on Saturday between 2-5 pm and willing to exchange a waitlist bypass for volunteering to help at early check-in OR would bring a non-cyclist who would be willing to volunteer on ride day. Use the website contact form to let us know.

Alternative Starting Locations: Park Rangers ask that you do not park at Heart of the Hills or the ONP Visitors Center on Mt. Angeles. They will be stationed at both locations to enforce this. If you are getting dropped off at the entrance the vehicle must be completely off Hurricane Ridge road by 7am. Drop-offs can be done after 7am via Lake Dawn road but the vehicle cannot be on Hurricane Ridge Rd.

Packet Pickup: Information about options to pick up ride packets can be found on the Ride Day Info page. If you’ll arrive in town too late for early check-in, please email events@portangeles.org to arrange an alternative pickup location.

Jerseys: Jerseys purchased by June 1 will be available at check-in, and those purchased later will be mailed, including jerseys ordered at the ride. Some 2022 Jerseys will be available for purchase at check-in.

Ride Timing: The ride up the mountain takes anywhere from 2 hours to 5 hours, depending on the cyclist. The downhill portion takes about 30 minutes. If you plan to start prior to 6am be sure to take advantage of early check-in. It is very important to be completely off Hurricane Ridge road by noon when it opens to traffic. For most that means departing the top no later than 11:30am

Who’s riding: 800 cyclists, including elite athletes who zip up to the top twice (or more), everyday riders who have been training for this for months, retired folks & kids (our oldest registrant is 81 and our youngest is 10 ), and people overcoming disabilities to make the climb.

  1. I am so sorry but am not feeling well so I am going to have to cx out on ride. Hope you can offer my spot to someone on wait list. Good luck on ride. How does that work with the jersey? Do you mail that to me as I ordered one? I was going to pick it up at the race. I did ride hurricane Ridge on my own last summer so I don’t really feel too guilty wearing the jersey as I normally would not wear the jersey if I didn’t do the ride lol.
